A busy month, the rivers were flooding from the spring runoff and rain. Petrie, as per normal was flooded out, Mud Lake had sections of the trail covered with water up to 6" or so.
The favourite thing that caught my eye were a pair of beavers at Mer Bleue Boardwalk
The PhotoStory of that morning is here
Despite the flooding, it was that time of year at Mud Lake. The Turkey Toms were looking for the hens. It is quite eye caching how the male turkeys seem to almost triple in size.
The other eye catching observations from Mud Lake are at:
Two eye-catching moments I missed photographing at Petrie island were a well blended-in mink and a beaver flapping its tail. I was there at mid-flood, the water rose another few inches in the days following. I was likely the last person on the island for the following weeks.
A painted turtle caught my eye. Despite the flooding and the early April timing, it had pulled itself up onto the edge of the road. Presumably hoping for slightly warmer temperatures and maybe some sun to come through the fog
I also checked out the spring runoff at Hogs Back waterfalls and the Chaudiere Falls
Ring-necked ducks, which I have never seen except in Florida, seem to have shown up in many areas this spring. These ones were at Sawmill Creek Ponds
My fav (±) spring flower, Blue Cohosh, was in its prime during my Walk in the Woods
Memories of Florida - a cormorant drying its wings at Colonnade Ponds
A close-up visit with a kestrel at Parc Omega
