Another very busy month, I really do need to slow down. Lots of photo ops produced eye-catchers for twelve PhotoStories. An eye catching moment doesn't always produce a "wow" image (few do), but they provide memorable moments.
Walking down a residential central Ottawa street this six unit row house popped out right away. It was unlike any other houses in the area. The detail in the brick certainly drew the eye.
Not far away a pocket of five murals caught my attention (as any mural does). One grouping is featured below, all appeared in Public Art Work - Murals
Walking through McCarthy Woods (which I don't often do) I spotted something I had not noticed for years - a fungus weeping. (They shed any excess water that builds up in them). The cottontail rabbit's eye was certainly an attention grabber.
After days of what started as fun unique experience that shortly became a noise nuisance for the neighbourhood, we managed to stop the raven family using our bird baths and leaving for points unknown (Although we did spot them several times at the garbage receptacles of a nearby strip mall)
A mother wood duck at Mud Lake had a mixed brood. That was certainly a first. She had 4 common merganser ducklings along with 9 wood duck ducklings
Later in the month we spotted a raccoon that had returned to an old hanut for a night's sleep
I was not sure who had a closer eye on whom while we ate lunch at Parc Omega
Three different "boggy" areas had some interesting plants:
Pitcher plant, sundew at Garry Fen, tamarack cones and moccassin flower/pink lady slipper at Mer Bleue Boardwalk and showy lady slippers at Purdon
I spent time at Colonnade Ponds one day. While there were lots of birds, I was distracted by close-ups....
I spent a half hour taking way too many photos, but the Petrie island tern flying and frequent diving kept catching my eye.
