September had a number of eye catchers.

Fletcher Wildlife Garden had two very bright and fully developed jack-in-the-pulpit seed “pods”. I’d never seen a seed pod as big as that before.
Fletcher also produced, finally, my first of the year monarchs. My second, I thought, was at the Dewberry trail later in the month
But it was a viceroy. So here's a lesson in telling them apart. The horizontal lines across the wings.
I had never heard of possumhaw berries before, likely because I never paid much attention to berries over the years. I spotted two bunches of berries that turned out to be possumhaws, one at Mer Bleue bog and another at Alfred Bog
I missed the September full moon, but a few days later on a cool clear early morning I did capture a slightly past-full-moon shining very brightly in the backyard.
A sun worshipping squirrel held our attention at Mud Lake one morning as it flattened itself against a tree trunk and soaked up the sun.
Viper’s bugloss “bulking” up of small leaves on their stalks caught my eye at Éco-Odyssé and Mud Lake. Another thing I’ve never noticed before
