I lived up to a promise to myself to take less photos this month, trying to slow down in my old age😊. I kept fewer photos this month than I have for each month of 2026, but I still had lots of eye catching moments. Just 5 PhotoStories this month
I always look forward to September (and early October). Its the time of the year for dew covered spider webs, mushrooms/fungi and the start of the fall colour
An unplanned Mer Bleue Boardwalk, produced some eye catching webs and mist
The mushrooms and fungi were doing very well this year, likely because of all the rain. I always take too many photos of them, but I can't resist.
On the "mushroom" walk, a plant I had been watching for 20 years was still blooming, a lobelia, and the touch-me-not blooms certainly caught the eye
A wood frog caught my eye, only because it moved, otherwise the camouflage is quite good. (Close up shots at the last link above)
Early fall colours catches the eye at Robertson Lake near Lavant (North of Sharbot Lake)
And at Mud Lake plus Mer Bleue Boardwalk (Along with a touch of frost)
Close encounters with a paper wasp and two dragonflies (Autumn meadowhawk and white-face meadowhawk) at Mud Lake

At Mud Lake I timed it right to catch three juvenile common mergansers in the Ottawa River and a pair of adult wood ducks, one fully recovered from his molt and one still in full molt
A phoebe at Petrie Island was looking very suspiciously at me and an egret seemed to be matching the neck and head position of a painted turtle behind it
A newly hatched snapping turtle seemed lost on the path a long way from the water, so I moved him along his way to a pond
